DIRECTORATE OF CONTINUING EDUCATION (DCE)

The Directorate of Continuing Education (DCE) was established in the year 2006 following the separation of the academic programmes from the Consultancy Service Unit (CSU) with the mandate to run full time (evening) and part-time (weekend) courses obtainable in the morning programme. In addition, the Directorate is to run ordinary diploma and certificate courses and to also affiliate with other institutions where necessary so as to provide additional access to tertiary education and improve the IGR of the polytechnic. The Directorate is headed by a Director assisted by a Deputy Director. There are three major units in the Directorate, which include Administration, Finance and Audit, headed by persons deployed by the Registrar, Bursar and Auditor. The Deputy Director is in charge of all academic activities in the Directorate and report back to the Director. The Directorate has 17 permanent staff deployed from various departments and units of the institution and 3 adhoc staff employed by the Directorate. Mandate: 1. To provide full- time programme as in the mainstream during evening period. 2. To provide full- time programme as in the mainstream during weekend period. 3. To provide evening or weekend programmes in the field relevant to the needs and aspirations of Bids Community and its environs. 4. To prepare and forwards the result of aforementioned to the Academic Board of the Federal Polytechnic, Bida for approval. 5. To improve the internal revenue generation of the Polytechnic 6. To affiliate with other tertiary institutions in running diploma programme not available in the Polytechnic.

Engr. Musa Mohammed

Head of Directorate/Unit

Engr. Musa Mohammed attended L E A Primary School Maiduguri Road, Kaduna between 1972-1977 and Government Secondary Secondary School, Kafanchan between 1978-1982. He obtained his HND in Agricultural Engineering (Soil & Water option) from Kaduna Polytechnic with Upper credit in 1991 and proceeded to Federal University of Technology, Minna for his PGD and masters of Engineering (M. Eng) Degree in Agric and Bio – Resource Engineering in 2001 and 2005 respectively. The Director joined the services of the Federal Polytechnic, Bida as an Instructor in the Department of Agricultural Engineering in January, 1994 and rose through the ranks and became Chief Lecturer in July, 2013. He has held several positions of responsibilities in the institution including Director, Directorate of Entrepreneurship Education and Development, Director of Continuing Education, Dean School of Engineering Technology, Director of Directorate of Continuous Professional Education Centre, Deputy Director, Management Information System (MIS) and Chairman Staff School Management Board. Served as Head of Department Agric and Bio-Environmental Engineering, Federal Polytechnic, Bida as well as Ameer Muslim Ummah of the Polytechnic. Deputy Editor in Chief, Landzun Journal of Engineering and Appropriate Technology, 2014 to date. Published a number of academic articles in national and international journals. A member of the Council for Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Member, Nigerian Society of Engineers (MNSE), Member Nigerian Institution of Agricultural Engineers (MNIAE). Chairman G16 Cooperative Multipurpose Cooperative Society LTD, Member MASS and Halal Cooperative Societies. Served as Chairman of a number of the Polytechnic Management Committees. Outside the Polytechnic, Served as Resource person to GTZ on agro- processing equipment in 2014 and consultant to Niger State Fadama programme in 2008. A national Competency Based Trainer (CEFE) from 2010 to date.
