The history/evolution of the department: Statistics as a course is as old as the polytechnic itself. It began as a programme in the 1980s in the department of Mathematics and Science having two courses at National Diploma (ND) level. These are Science Laboratory Technology (SLT) and Statistics and during this period, the HND programme was approved by the NBTE and the first HND graduates were turn out in 1995. In 1996 the department of Mathematics Computer and Statistics was created and later in 2006 the Computer Science option was exited and became a department on her own and left with the department of Mathematics and Statistics and in 2016 the department of Mathematics and Statistics was separated as independent departments namely department of Mathematics and department of Statistics. The department has been headed by about 13 heads of department since when it was Mathematics/Science in the 1980s and 3 since when it became department of Statistics in 2016. The department has graduated many ND and HND graduates since its inception in the 1980s. The department is currently having 23 academic staff out of which 6 are Ph.D holders, 8 with Masters Degrees while the rest are presently undergoing their higher degree programs

Addmission Requirement

National Diploma Requirement (ND)

5 credit passes in Mathematics, English language and any 3 of Economics, Geography, Chemistry, Government, Further Mathematics, Physics, Biology/Agricultural Science

Higher National Diploma Requirement (HND)

To qualify for HND, candidate must possessed a ND cerficate from Federal Polytechnic, Bida or its equivilent from any reputable Federal Polytechnic. Candidate must have credit passes in Mathematics, English Lang., Physics, Chemistry & any other science subject in WAEC, NECO and NABTEB in not more than two sittings.
