Engr. Dr. Baba Aliyu Haruna was born on January, 6th 1967 in Niger State, Bida Local Government. He attended Kofar Egbogi Primary School Bida between 1973-1979 and Federal Government College Minna between 1979-1984. He also proceeded to the famous university in Nigeria, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria where he obtained his first Degree in Chemical Engineering with second class honour (Upper Division) in 1989. He further obtained masters of science (M.sc) Degree in Biochemical Engineering from the University of Birminghan, United Kingdom, becoming the best graduating student in 1992 and Doctor of philosophy (PHD) in Chemical Engineering from Federal University of Technology, Minna in 2017.
The Rector joined the service of the Federal Polytechnic, Bida as Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Chemical Engineering in September, 1990 and rose through the ranks and became Chief Lecturer in July, 2009. He has held several positions of responsibilities in the institution including Director Internal Quality Assurance, Director Linkages and Collaboration, Director of Continuing Education, Director Management Information System (MIS). He also served as the Head of the Department as well as being a Former Chairman of the Local Chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP). The Rector also is a widely published academic with many national and international journals publications. A Fellow member of the council for Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Fellow Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE), Fellow Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers (FNSche), Member Nigerian Society of Engineers (MNSE), Member Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers (MNSchE) and Member, Chemical Society of Nigeria (MCSN). Outside the polytechnic, Engr. Dr. Baba Aliyu Haruna had served as consultancy services in shea-butter production, consultancy services in biomass renewable energy, entrepreneurship activities in shea-butter and Groundnut production. He also served as Training of Local Women in quality shea-butter production, small scale farming activities, mentorship of secondary school students and coaching them for JAMB, WAEC and NECO examinations, resource person, Bida forum Inter-secondary schools science competition, membership services board, Nigerian Society of Engineers ((NSE) others are website Editorial Board Information Technology, Nigerian Society of Engineers 2015 (NSE) welfare committee, Nigerian Society of Engineers, 2017 (NSE) and Member Mass Cooperatives Society, the Federal Polytechnic, Bida. Associations are not left behind, Engr. Dr. Baba Aliyu Haruna is currently the PATRON of Manlabezhici Youth Development Association ( MYDA) Dr. Baba Aliyu Haruna had served as part-time lecturer in Chemical Engineering Department of Federal University of Technology, Yola between 1998-2000 session and also as Chemical Engineering Department, Federal University of Technology, Minna between 1998-1999 session. His Honours and Distinctions The academic guru was honoured with certificate of performance as project manager, World Bank Assisted Science and Technology Post Basic (STEP-B) project. Also Meritorious Service Award, Chairman Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP-BD) 2005-2006. Meritorious Service Award, ASUP Advisory Committee. Merit Service Award by National Association of Polytechnic Engineering Students 2007-2008. Best Lecturer Award by Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers (Student Chapter), 2001-2002.
